Technical Notes
The bulk of the album was recorded in Studio B at Omega Studios in Rockville, MD. Accordion on ‘Holiday’ was recorded at Colorado Sound in Arvada, CO and additional vocals and electric piano parts on ‘Anhedonia’ were recorded at AK Studios in La Porte, CO. A few additional parts like the clavinet in ‘Give Me Tyranny’ were recorded in Tom Capek’s basement studio.
All Jorgenson and Manuel’s vocals were tracked simultaneously, with Manuel standing in the main studio and Jorgenson in the isolation booth. The two could see each other through glass, and each vocal was only run four times. Jorgenson and Manuel like tracking vocal in this fashion, stating that “it allows us to communicate both technically and emotionally”.O’toole and Manuel would then pick and choose the best sections/lines from the various takes, building a composite that yielded the final vocal tracks.
